Labour migration is of all times. In the 19th century, the Dutch themselves were one of the first groups to move around for work, from the United States to European factories. After World War II, it only really became big in the Netherlands: the economy was in full swing and reconstruction required extra hands. The first "temporary work constructions" emerged to meet labour demand, especially in industry and agriculture. This basic idea still inspires us at Twente Personeelsdiensten: offering solutions when companies are short of people, and helping jobseekers find work quickly and effectively.
In the 1960s, the Dutch staffing industry got off to a good start. Companies like Randstad and Start People saw the light and developed as forerunners in flexible work. This allowed companies that needed flexibility when busy and jobseekers who wanted to get started quickly to find each other.
In the 1960s and 1970s, the first guest workers came to the Netherlands. People from countries such as Spain, Italy, Turkey and Morocco were attracted to work in factories and heavy outdoor work. From the 2000s, the Netherlands saw another large influx of migrant workers, this time from Eastern Europe.
