CLA Carpentry Industry 2024: Wage increase from 1 October

The new CLA for the carpentry industry has been a reality for some time now! With the agreement of no less than 95% of the members of FNV and CNV, the agreements from the agreement in principle of 5 March 2024 are final. This was important news for the carpentry industry and for everyone working in this sector. But what exactly does this CLA entail and what does it mean for you as an employee, apart from the wage increase from 1 October? At Twente Personeelsdiensten, we are happy to outline the key points for you.

New collective agreement for the Carpentry Industry - FNV

One of the most notable agreements is the wage increase totalling 9.5%. From 1 March 2024, wages will go up by 6.5%, with another 3% to be added on 1 October, so this took effect last Tuesday. This is good news for anyone working in the carpentry industry, as it provides a marked improvement in their income position.

Travel allowance has also been improved. For employees who live further than 5 kilometres from work, a reimbursement of €0.23 per kilometre (up to a maximum of 30 kilometres one way) now applies. Specifically, this means that someone living 30 kilometres away is entitled to €13.80 per day in travel allowance. Agreements like this ensure that carpentry workers will benefit financially.

As an employment agency, we at Twente Personeelsdiensten are particularly happy with the agreements on temporary workers. After being employed by a client for one year, temporary workers are now entitled to a contract of at least one year. This provides more security and stability for our temporary workers, something that we at Twente Personeelsdiensten obviously consider important.

Flexibility in working hours is a major theme in the new collective agreement. It has been agreed that employees will have the option to apply for a 4-day working week. In addition, tropical rosters may be introduced in case of extremely high temperatures. This means workers can start earlier to avoid the worst heat. These kinds of arrangements contribute to a healthier and more pleasant working environment, promoting employees' sustainable employability.

Retaining the 'Quit heavy work earlier' (ZWT) scheme is another key point in the new collective agreement. Employers and unions agree that this scheme is of great importance, especially for people who have done physically demanding work for many years.

This new collective agreement and the wage increase from 1 October offer many benefits to workers in the carpentry industry. Besides the wage increase and improved benefits, it provides more flexibility and security in the workplace. At Twente Personeelsdiensten, we believe it is important that you as an employee are aware of your rights and opportunities. Do you have questions about what these new agreements mean for you? Or are you looking for a new challenge in the carpentry industry? If so, feel free to contact us. We will be happy to help you!
