Metaal en Techniek collective agreement: 13% wage increase

At Twente Personeelsdiensten, we keep a close eye on collective bargaining developments. The recent news surrounding the new Metal and Technology collective labour agreement has therefore been welcomed by us, as a loyal supplier to more than 20 organisations covered by this collective labour agreement. After more than a year without a significant wage increase, we can now delight our employees with an increase of 7% from 1 July 2024. This also makes the attractiveness of the sector higher again compared to other sectors.

The content of the agreement

The new collective agreement, which takes effect from 1 April 2024 and runs until 1 February 2026, brings significant changes, including a total wage increase of 13% over 22 months. This is a godsend for the many professionals in the sector, who contribute daily to the growth and development of companies in the Netherlands. The metal CBA is the largest CBA in the Netherlands, with as many as 340,000 employees and 30,000 employers covered by it.

Wage increases are applied as follows:

  • By 1 July 2024: A pay rise of 7%.
  • By 1 March 2025: A structural wage increase of €100.00 per month, representing an increase of about 3% for the average salary in the sector. For young people in the sector, this increase even means an increase of 12 to 20%.
  • By 1 October 2025: Another pay rise of 3%.

For our employees, this means not only directly higher pay, but also another gap with the legal minimum wage of €13.68. Due to the lagging increase, the minimum wages had become very close. The pay increase from 1 July will even be paid retroactively, meaning they can soon expect a nice extra on their payslips.

Further changes to the agreement

The agreement does not only contain wage improvements. The Early retirement scheme (RVU) continues, giving older workers the opportunity to retire earlier. This is an important scheme that helps restore work-life balance, especially for those who have worked in the industry for long years.

In addition, the age for senior days remains at 55, which is a major victory for the working elderly in the sector. This means workers can enjoy extra days off earlier, contributing to their sustainable employability.

A responsible deal for the future

At Twente Personeelsdiensten, we value the sustainable employability of our employees. The new agreement devotes a lot of attention to this. Employers and unions will work together to ensure that everyone in the sector can continue to work in a healthy and productive manner. This also means more opportunities for training and development, with training vouchers and career coaches helping employees continue to develop their skills.

What else do we find?

At Twente Personeelsdiensten, we welcome the increase in the Metal and Engineering sector and are proud of our clients who fall under this collective agreement. Our target group also mostly consists of welders, production workers, operators and mechanics with experience in metal. Due to the increase, they are now less likely to think about a job where they can start earning a higher salary. It adds to their engagement, purchasing power and stable base. So although the increase is substantial, it brings benefits to both employer and employee!
